Just My Type

Typography isn’t just decoration… it’s strategy!

When it comes to making an impression, the words you choose matter — but how those words look can matter just as much.

Typography sets the mood before a single sentence is read. Is your vibe modern and refined? Exclusive and expensive? Playful and nostalgic? Approachable and affordable?

The right combination of lettering, colors, and illustration sets a tone for your audience instantly, even before they take in the details.

In the examples I’m sharing today, you can see how dramatically a design shifts simply with different typographic styles and palettes.

A clean white background with elegant scripts and minimal sans-serif fonts suggests sophistication and freshness that’s perfect for a chic café or upscale event. Meanwhile, a hand-lettered, retro comic-inspired style with bold black and punchy colors gives off a fun, approachable energy which is ideal for casual eateries, bars, or playful product packaging.

Without even reading the two promotional fliers that Rockin Chalk created for NH Guitars, it’s easy to see which promotion is a friendly invitation to a free event, and which has a tone directed toward an audience of collectors looking to invest in a vintage “luxury purchase” guitar.

Same business, but sometimes different tones can be needed for targeting different audiences.

Choosing the right type isn’t just about what you like, it’s about what your audience will feel.

If you’re ready to set the perfect tone for your next event, product, or space, I’d love to help bring your vision to life!
